Loop Knot Trouble

I like loop to loop connections between the fly line and leader. I bend over a section of the fly line tip and put on two nail knots of 8# mono, covered with pliobond. This loop never fails. The problem is I have repeated breakages of a surgeons loop on the leader ends. I have tied the surgeons loops with 2, 3, and 4 turns through the initial loop and find all variations are prone to pop at the knot.
Please advise.
Thanks
Ted

Weakapaug Tragedy

Tim Coleman, The Fisherman editor and author about fishing was found dead on the sand trail at Weakapaug. He was a advocate for conservation and teaching others about saltwater fishing. I bumped into him many times on the beaches. Once CFFA member Brian Carvallah and I met him at Napatree Point. He gave us great advice and some flies tied by his friend Mark Lewchik, former CFFA member. Here's a link to the report:
Ted
http://www.thewesterlysun.com/police-ident...er-comment-area

Fly Fishing Class On-the-water Session Today

Today's on-the water session at the Willi started cold but Dace, Chubs and Trout heated things up. I'm not sure how Dick and Jesse did because they had left by the time we returned, as did their instructors Gordon Tedford and Paul Nott. Matt captured a Rainbow & a Brown while working with Phil McCormick. Young Mike hooked into a nice Rainbow with Gary Steinmiller's assistance. Steve caught a beautiful Tiger Trout which I thought I took a photo of, but my phone did not save it for some unknown reason - sorry Steve. Hope the rest of the class has as much fun next week.

Invitation To Teach Kids Fly Fishing

I am Don Bellingham of the Vernon Greenways Volunteers. I would appreciate your offering to your group the possibility of assisting us by teaching some fly fishing basic principles to a group of approximately 20 Ellington High School Special Education Students on Friday, April 20, 2012 at Valley Falls Park in Vernon, Ct. Last year three people from your group assisted us with middle school aged children from the Board of Education Services for the Blind (BESB). We are offering a function exactly like we did last year with fly fishing, bait fishing, braille trail tour, barbecue lunch and games. The difference is that the kids this year will be older and have various disabilities rather than just sight restrictions. Special Ed Teachers and family members will be on hand to assist with the students.

Your fishermen would be explaining the equipment and showing how to cast, as well as, actually fishing with the kids at Valley Falls Park in Vernon, Ct. The pond at Valley Falls Parks is stocked with trout by the state. I am also contacting the Rockville Fish and Game Club who, the last two years, has supplied fishing poles and fishing instruction on bait fishing for the kids. The function would run from 9:00 AM to mid-afternoon but I expect your instructional participation would be from about 9:30 AM to approximately 11:00 AM. Your people may want to be there by 9:00 AM, however, to set up equipment at tables we will provide so they can give an overview of the equipment.

If there is an interest or just some questions, I can be contacted at my e-mail address of BellinghamDL@att.net or they could call me at (860) 872-6061.

I appreciate your willingness to give this a try. I know the kids last year enjoyed the event and this group being a little older and with a different set of disabilities may be even better positioned to benefit from your instruction.

Don Bellingham
Lead Person
Vernon Greenways Volunteers
