Has anyone noticed the DEP web site is now telling where they will be stocking ahead of time instead of recounting where stocking has taken place? After the nightmare that took place at Salmon River the day before Opening Day I do not see how this is a good thing. Some of the areas being stocked are on private property (i.e. Conservancies, land trusts, and private lands.). Why would you want hordes of anglers waiting for the trucks to show up? Isn't it better for the fish to get at least a little bit acclimated and spread out before having at them? Just my opinion.

I was told the trout are not stocked where the general public is not allowed access. Can you post a link to the article you mention. I can't seem to find anything about in season stocking or private property being stocked.

Gary, I'm sorry. I did not intend to cause a bit of a muddle here. The "private" properties I mentioned are those areas outside State ownership but where the State has agreements to stock and have access. The Eight Mile River is a good example. The State has jurisdiction within Devil's Hopyard State Park. Other areas of the stream run through various non-State entities. In the past the Eight Mile was not considered a great fishing stream because of widely fluctuating water levels. However, since the area made headlines as a wild and scenic waterway more attention has been focused on the resource. Not all the participants in the program are happy about that. There has been minor complaints of abuse to contiguous properties. Access to this area is at the discretion of all those entities that went into making up the coalition that was active in obtaining the wild designation. This is what I was referring to. I apologize for the confusion.
